In the wake of World War I in 1918, after the withdrawal of the Russians, Bessarabia came under administrative control of Romania. The merging of Estraichnoveselitz and Russian Noveselitz led to its unification and the final creation of Noveselitz as a small city. In the Russian section, the initial Jewish population consisted of proletarians, skilled workers, shoemakers, tailors, coachmen, bakers, locksmiths, horsekeepers, furriers and small merchants, and a bourgeoisie consisting of bigger merchants emerged.
