According to Mr. Moshe Vaiser (Z’L), a native of Noveselitz, there were 14 synagogues in the city. Those with the largest congregations were: the Altenaye Shil (Old New Synagogue), the Tsudeguere Shil (the Tsudeguer Synagogue), the Bayoner Shil (the Hasidim Synagogue of Bayon), the Groise Shil (Great Synagogue), and the Mitzraimer Shil (Egyptian Synagogue).
Each of these temples had its own rebbe and its respective Hasidim. The rabbi of the first synagogue referred to above was the Bril or Moishale, the Dayan (Moses, the judge), a position he shared with rabbis Pesach and Chaim. Rabbi Pesach was considered to be a “distinguished righteous” member of the community.
